Engine 12A Rotary 2 X 573cc (1146cc) carby, 4 speed manual (std.), T-Bar 3 speed auto, square headlights. Dual round headlights.

Engine March 1972 10A (S102A) Rotary 982cc carby, March 1974 12A (S124A) Rotary 1146cc carby. 4 speed manual (std.), T-Bar 3 speed auto.
1973- 1979 －RX4 LA22S, LA23S Sedan 4-door, Hardtop 2-door
Engine April 1973 12A (LA22S) Rotary 1146cc carby, April 1974 13B (LA23S) Rotary 1308cc carby. 4 speed manual (std.), T-Bar 3 speed auto (opt.). Sedan - has one piece grille and headlight surround. Hardtop discontinued April 1976.

Enhanced turbocharger efficiency and cooling performance that afford increased maximum engine power of 280PS (JIS net). Light weight achieve a power-to-weight ratio of 4.57 kg/PS for the Type RS model.
